Offered for sale is an original never restored 1952 The Pride of St. Louis original baseball movie poster (The Dizzy Dean Story) . The Harmon Jones sports biography, THE PRIDE OF ST. LOUIS (1952) starring Dan Dailey, Joanne Dru, and Richard Hylton. This film is the story of Jerome “Dizzy” Dean, a major-league baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Dan Dailey successfully captures the colorful personality of Dizzy Dean, the son of a sharecropper with little education. When a foot injury led to his eventual decline as a star player, Dean learned how to make his zany charm work for him in a new career as a baseball radio commentator. This is one of the prettier baseball-related U.S. film posters. Dan Dailey is shown as a pitcher on the poster in his St. Louis Cardinals uniform and also as the sportscaster who became a legend in the world of TV. This is a film which is fun for the whole family. This poster was used in a theater and is folded, measuring 27″ x 40″ on Lithographed paper. It is marked, “20th Century Fox” lower left bottom and numbered 8875. Certified stamp on the back to guarantee originality. The poster exhibits folds from having been folded into sixths. There is one small tear at the bottom around 3″, some minor tears along the border, and minor tape repairs. Please review the photos for additional information.
