    Description

    Diving knife NV-1 UVS-50 of the USSR Navy. For a long time, divers of the Soviet Navy, when performing underwater work, used a massive knife, manufactured according to the drawing 1U-170, which was part of the UVS-50 complex (Improved three-bolt ventilated diving equipment). Knives of this type were produced by the 28th Military Plant for the Navy. The knife is made in a classic design for diving knives of the early 20th century. It is equipped with a long massive blade, as in the water, when carrying out various works, chopping blows are usually used.
    In the standard version, the blade was made of stainless steel "4X13".
    The handle of the knife is made of rubber, has a weak barrel shape and 7 protruding narrow rollers that provide better grip with a gloved hand.
    The cross and the pommel are made of brass plates, by stamping. The top is rigidly fixed on the shank by riveting the latter. The pommel is not round in shape, but with a small “tide” on the side of the butt of the knife, in which there is a small hole for attaching a safety cord.
    The crosspiece has a diamond shape and serves, in addition to its direct purpose - to prevent the hand from slipping on the RK, but also one of the elements of fixing the knife in the sheath.
    The scabbard, which is made of brass, has a longitudinal groove at the mouth, and on the opposite side there is a plate that presses the knife and the guard enters this groove with its side. To remove the knife, simply press the knife against the plate and remove it from the sheath. Simple and reliable.
    Technical characteristics of a diving knife (drawing 1U-170) from the UVS-50 kit:

    Blade width, mm: 38;

    The knife stays securely in the sheath. The last photo showed a crack on the leather clasp.
