Based on true historical events, the film tells the story of General Billy Mitchell, a pioneering crusader of the Army's fledgling air corps. He is court-martialed after questioning the loyalty of his superiors for allowing the air corps to deteriorate. Cooper turns in a passionate and memorable performance, and the film also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
