just a note on how my Dad taught me to take care of things:
we carried my Dad's accordion on our American Airlines flight across the country in coach.
at security we told them it's my Dad's accordion + they had me at one end of the scanner and my husband at the other end, lest someone would go off with it.
we did not put it in the overhead bin, but put it under my seat during the flight, gig bag handle up, as it should always be stored.
my Dad has always kept it dry with packets in the gig bag.
