  • Modification Description: Brown (archival) tape has been placed on the reverse along the edges to assist in repairing tears along the borders.
  • Condition: This original re-release (R-1953) rolled Half Sheet movie poster displays strong colors with excellent detail of the actors and lettering on a clean background. The flaws that exist are generally unobtrusive to the appearance of the poster or occur along the borders. The main flaw is a 2.75" horizontal tear that starts at the left border and goes 1.5" into the image area, to the left of Karloff's eye's (see photo). There are several faint creases and marks in the yellow Title, particularly the "I" and "E" of "ISLE" and the "D" and "A" in "DEAD". The prior horizontal Fold line is barely visible under bright light and close inspection and there is minor scuffing in the center of the poster. The 4 corners have moderate creasing, particularly the top right and bottom right corners. There are tears and faints marks intermittently along the borders. All tears have been repaired with brown tape on the reverse. Some faint marks in BORIS's name. Please review the photos carefully.

    Description

    This is the original (1sh) re-released (R-1953) movie poster
    ISLE OF THE DEAD.
    It was used to continue to promote the film in theatres when it was re-released by
    RKO
    in 1953.   The first original movie poster and film for
    ISLE OF THE DEAD
    were released in 1945.  This R-1953 original movie poster is not a reprint nor a reproduction.  The movie stars
    Boris Karloff, Ellen Drew, Marc Cramer, Katherine Emery
    , Helene Thimig, Alan Napier, and Jason Robards, Sr.
    The movie was directed by Mark Robson.
    The movie poster is Rolled.  The poster
    measures 22" x 28".
    This unrestored movie poster is graded C7.5, or Very Fine Minus.
    Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Very Good to Very Fine), C6 (Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc.  It is difficult to find any C10 (Mint) original movie posers pre 1985.
    Brown paper tape has been laid upon the reverse along the edges to repair intermittent tears along the border, including the 2.75" tear described above.  The brown tape does not show through to the front of the poster.  Overall, this original has a presentable appearance and the flaws that exist, even the 2.75" tear, are somewhat unobtrusive to the appearance of the poster at a normal viewing distance. In addition, most of the other flaws occur along the border which proper framing could help to alleviate.
    Restoration could repair all of the aforementioned flaws.  If you are interested in this Half Sheet original, and would also think of having it restored, just let us know.  We can have it restored for you and just add the cost of restoration to the listed price, or we can refer you to one of the professional restoration companies that we use.  That said, this original can be framed and displayed - as is - with excellent results.
    Note:  The corners are held down by weights which is what you see in the photos.
