  • Condition: Condition: Good to Very Good. Prior to linen-backing, there was a small tear at upper left and there was a larger tear in the upper left edge that did not impact the colorful image. There was also some separation in the right edge of the horizontal fold. Finally there is some paper loss in the border of the upper right corner that does not affect the image. Restoration was done on one tear located at the top around the letters “CO” in the word courage, and a second tear located near the arm of the character smoking. Also restoration was done to some missing color along the top fold. Please see photos. The restored and linen-backed poster has vivid images which display beautifully.

    Description

    Vintage original 1953 linen-backed and restored movie poster insert (14”x36”) for
    ‘From Here to Eternity” was the classic 1953 Fred Zinneman (winner of the Best Director Oscar for this film) Hawaii romantic World War II (WWII) military melodrama based upon the novel by James Jones about soldiers stationed in Honolulu just before the attack on Pearl Harbor, and their many romances and their conflicts, which results in the deaths of several of the principals. The movie won 8 Academy Awards out of 13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor to Frank Sinatra, Best Supporting Actress to Donna Reed, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
    Burt Lancaster and Montgomery Clift were both nominated for Best Actor, Deborah Kerr was nominated for Best Actress.
    The movie also starred Ernest Borgnine, George Reeves, Jack Warden and Claude Atkins. This all-star classic movie was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress due to the film being
    culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant.
    While the vivid colors and design of the poster looked wonderful in its original condition, this striking movie insert poster really displays so beautifully since it was linen-backed and the artwork was lovingly restored by the premier movie poster restoration business in Los Angeles.
