    Description

    ROBOT MONSTER [1953]
    Original Theatrical Release One-Sheet Poster
While now a Cult Classic, it was originally a Major Box Office Flop.
It was such a disaster that the Director/Producer, Phil Tucker, attempted suicide. He was a 25 year old entrant into the film industry and made the 3-D film (so ambitious!) in four days with a k budget. The feature alien monster, Ro-Man, was a product of budgetary constraints. Tucker bought a gorilla costume cheap, because it was missing the head mask. It was improvised with a diving helmet, or something similar, from the same resale shop from my understanding. The plot was tiresome and confusing. To add to that confusion, stock footage of lizards was inexplicably interspliced throughout the movie.
The poster itself was acquired through a very reputable source. Pre-restoral it was graded Fine+ (6.5). Restoration was on linen, as is customary, and it is now presented rolled, rather than folded. It is ready to be responsibly mounted and framed. (Buyer: please do not mount it near a window; keep it away from direct sunlight.)
The film was such a flop (and remained so for decades before it was appreciated as a campy fun film for cult movie audience) that these posters were not generally preserved at all. Very few originals exist and it is sought after and highly coveted by collectors and film afficianados alike.
