GERMAN SILVER
(from Wikipedia) -
Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, New silver, Nickel brass, Albata, Alpacca
, or
Electrum
is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.
Nickel silver
is named for its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated. The name
"German silver"
refers to its development by 19th-century German metalworkers in imitation of the Chinese alloy known as paktong (cupronickel). All modern, commercially important nickel silvers (such as those standardized under ASTM B122) contain significant amounts of zinc, and are sometimes considered a subset of brass.
The Obverse:
On the top along the edge of the coin are the words
«ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ ЛЕТ СОВЕТСКОЙ ВЛАСТИ»
("FIFTY YEARS OF SOVIET POWER"), in the center is the
coat of arms
of the USSR with 15 turns of the ribbon, below it the symbol of the value of the coin
«ОДИН»
("ONE") and below the word
«ОДИН»
("RUBLE").
The Reverse:
On the left is a five-pointed star, under it are the letters "СССР"
("USSR"), to the right of the inscription is Vladimir Lenin with his right hand raised, behind him is a large depiction of a sickle and hammer.
The edge:
the inscriptions "1917-1967" and "СЛАВА ВЕЛИКОМУ ОКТЯБРЮ" (GLORY TO GREAT OCTOBER), between them two five-pointed stars.
